Suffolk Coast Landscape Photography 1:1

Based on the stunning Suffolk coast in East Anglia, this Landscape Photography workshop is a 5-hour session that looks in-depth at how to use landscape filters for long-exposure photography. If you would like to attend this session further afield than the East Coast or if you would like this to be run for a club or group, then please get in contact to discuss this further.

What is long-exposure photography?

Long-exposure photography is when you take a photo over a prolonged period. It is an image that you can't take handheld if you want it to be sharp. Using long exposure will create blur within the image. Traditionally it is used for water or clouds, or even to remove people from images. This effect is created by using what is called Neutral density filters that we attach to the front of our lens.

Where and when will the workshop start?

We will start at a predetermined location that is convenient for you and great for photography.

Upon booking, please email me at info@dibsphotography.com to arrange the session date. Currently, sessions are being run on weekends for approximately 6 weeks in the future.

Suffolk Coast Landscape Photography 1:1, is it for you?

For my work, I only use the market-leading Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters, and I fully appreciate photography can be an expensive passion, so with this in mind, I will supply you with all the filters and adapters for you to try out on the session. This gives you the best opportunity to see exactly what you will get for your money should you then want to invest in a kit. But best of all, this is a great opportunity for you to see what type of filters you prefer for your style of photography, again things we will explore throughout the session.

This workshop is aimed at anybody who has some basic understanding of the manual controls on their DSLR/CSC camera, right through to people who know how to use their camera and just want to improve their photographic practice.

How do I teach the Suffolk Coast Landscape Photography 1:1 and what will you learn?

The day is filled with landscape photography tuition out on location on the Suffolk coast. This is a one-student-to-one tutor session (unless you decide on the 2 people or group options). You will get all the help that is needed to maximize your learning from the day.

The day will be solely tailored around your needs, so in brief: You will have somebody to show you what to look out for in creating those perfect images before you have even got the camera out of the camera bag, right through to advice and pointers on how to edit those shots.

By the end of the session, you will have a full understanding of what the settings on your camera do in relation to Long Exposure work. You will know what filters achieve what results and how to calculate exposures correctly. You will be taking control of your camera and the settings and letting the creativity start to flow.

Learning outcomes include:

Reading your camera's light meter.

Full understanding of Aperture, Shutter speed, and ISO.

Manual focusing.

Metering Modes.

The critical theory around making Long Exposures images

Setting up your camera correctly for shooting long exposures.

What ND filters are used for what effects?

Calculating long exposure times correctly.

Understanding of landscape compositions.

Thoughts on editing images.

What experience do I have as a tutor?

All day while shooting we will be discussing the theory behind making work, what stands out and what sells, what makes a good image and how can we get that image we see into our cameras. This comes off the back of my many years of commercial photography experience and time spent studying photography as an art form.

I spent over 10 years running workshops, including 4 years of teaching and writing workshops for all levels and ages of photographers for the country's biggest photographic retailer Wex Photo Video. As one of the ambassadors for Formatt-Hitech filters, a UK-based, yet one of the world's largest landscape filter companies, they fully support me in my work and pass on my knowledge of photography as I meet their high standards of excellence through my sessions.

5 years studying Commercial, landscape, and architecture photography to the Master's degree level with some of the best mentors and tutors the country has and graduating with a 1st class degree with honours. I have also picked up a few awards along the way and I have exhibited and been published worldwide, just check out my Shows and Awards page.

Extra information:

We can either start at a pre-determined location that is convenient for you, or the session can start at Dibs's house, and you can then be driven in his van for the duration of the session.
